About Athene

Athene is the burrowing owl mascot and official prognosticator of Ground Owl Day every year for Cape Coral, Florida. Ground Owl Day is hosted by the Cape Coral Friends of Wildlife (CCFW) who help to protect local wildlife. Similar to most prognosticating groundhogs, if Athene sees her shadow, winter lingers; if not, spring is on its way. Athene is a bit of a social media phenom as she loves getting her photo taken with guests, whereas most burrowing owls prefer that guests stay 10 feet away.
